Battery Power

A rechargeable battery used in portable computer devices, such as notebook computers. The most common substances used in computer battery packs are nickel cadmium (Nicad), nickel metal hydride (NiMH), and Lithium Ion.

Batteries for laptops have a unique challenge - they must be small and lightweight. The laptop battery should give backup of at least 5 hours to make it effective for laptop use.

Laptop manufacturers have to provide batteries with smaller backup times to ensure their products remain lightweight. For example a larger battery would give more backup time overall, but would add a great deal of extra weight to the laptop.
